THE EIGHT LANCASHIRE LADS
In 1897, with the help of his mother's contacts, Chaplin had been recruited to join a group of clog dancers called The Eight Lancashire Lads. They had performed in many music halls in Great Britain. However, the group didn't last too long or make too much money.
FIRST ACTING GIG
Chaplin's first known acting gig was in a production of Sherlock Holmes, where he had played the role of a pageboy.
FRED KARNO
In 1908, Chaplin had joined Fred Karno's vaudeville troupe and was sent to America with it in 1910, where Chaplin had a role in a sketch called "A Night in an English Music Hall". Chaplin stayed with the troupe until he had been spotted by Mack Sennet, who had brought him to Keystone studios in 1913.
